Top reasons to choose cash-based PT

Cash-based physical therapy is rapidly growing throughout the US so there must be a reason why patients are seeking out a different avenue of care. There are many reasons to choose cash-based PT and we have listed some of the top reasons below.

  • Insurance limits what physical therapists can and can not do.

    • Corporate physical therapy has turned into pleasing insurance companies to receive the best reimbursement possible. With insurance based physical therapy, therapists have to use what are called “timed codes”. This means you have to do a certain code for a specific amount of time before it will be covered by the insurance company. This means that even if you do not need to perform a certain exercise for “8 minutes” your therapist has to make sure you meet the proper timeline in order to bill a “timed code” to be reimbursed.

With corporate physical therapy clinics, most therapists have to meet productivity standards. This typically causes therapists to see 2-3 people at a time. During my previous job, I was seeing that amount of patients at a time for approximately an hour. These patients were typically very different from one another (ex: one patient being a high school athlete, one patient being a post-op total knee replacement and another patient with Parkinson’s disease). It is difficulty to give your full attention and skill set to each patient individually when you are seeing so many at once.

With cash-based physical therapy we are able to see 1 patient at a time for a full hour (sometimes even longer) without having to worry about insurance reimbursements and timed codes.

  • More personal and customized time with your PT

    • Most PTs decide to go into the profession because they want to help patients move better, feel better and get back to the things they love. A big reason I went into physical therapy is because I wanted to build relationships with my patients and get to know their goals, life desires and hobbies. You should be able to build a rapport with your therapist and trust them with your care. Physical therapy can be tough at times and it helps to have a full hour one-on-one with your therapist to support you!

  • We are able to treat WHATEVER you need!

    • With insurance based PT, we have to have a different plan of care for each body part we treat. So if you come to an insurance based PT with shoulder pain but then two weeks later develop neck pain, you have to have a separate plan of care and appointment for that diagnosis (which is just a pain in the butt!).

When you see a cash-based PT you are able to treat whichever body part is causing you discomfort or troubles that day! We will absolutely address ANY problems you having.

  • Seeing a cash-based PT can actually save you money in the long run

    • Most PT clinics want you to come in 2-3 times per week for a minimum of 6-8 weeks. With a lot of high deductibles, co-pays, and visit limits requiring authorizations from your insurance company. At my previous job I would see patients that had $50-75 co-pays and then STILL had to pay hundreds to thousands of dollars in bills after their treatment was over. Most patients would call the clinic and complain that they received a bill even though they “already paid their copay”. They did not fully understand that their insurance did not cover any PT sessions until their deductible was met and even when their deductible was met, insurance may only cover <80% of their treatment costs. These costs also included treatment times that were shared with other patients due to the therapists seeing 2-3 patients at a time.

At Evolve, we typically only see our patients 1-2/week for a full hour at each session ONE-ON-ONE. So over the course of your treatment you are spending less than what you would with insurance based PT and you are getting a full hour of one-on-one direct care with us. Not only does this end up saving you money, but it saves your time by not having to schedule 3 visits a week.

Depending on your out of network benefits, some insurance companies will accept a superbill from your out of network PT and reimburse you either fully or partially for your visits. This can be provided upon request from your us and we are more than willing to help you with it!

  • Your health is worth your time and investment!

    • All of this really comes back to one main point. Cash based Physical Therapy has the ability to provide you with the highest quality of care and individualized plans. We can promise you that high quality, affordable care still exists and your insurance company does not have to control your care!

At Evolve, we intend to put our patients first and give them the care they deserve. I can now say with certainty that we are able to provide them with a better patient experience than they would get anywhere else!
